I lived in Texas for two years attending University of Texas part-time. During this portion of my life I obtained my helicopter pilot's license and also worked as a STEM tutor for the company GirlStart. My pilot's license gave me a firsthand mechanical education, while tutoring allowed me to spend time one-on-one with students of all ages. I just finished up a semester of student-teacher observations, where I was able to interact with Sophomore year students at a local Junior/Senior High School. During this time, I found that I truly enjoy interacting with students and engaging them to use critical thinking skills. I want to be a tutor because ever since I was a young girl I have dreamed about becoming a teacher, and as I grew up I realized my passion extended to science. I am currently a junior at Miami University-Oxford, obtaining my teaching certification in Biology and Chemistry. I have many goals and aspirations aligned with teaching, but a big goal of mine is to inspire young adults to pursue interest in the STEM fields. I feel that no matter the student's status, gender, culture, or race...ANYONE can be a scientist, engineer, mathematician, or work towards advancing technology.
