I'm an aspiring physician, attending Spelman College as a Spanish major on a pre-med track. I'm fascinated by the sciences, biology, and the environmental effects on the human body. After my freshman year, I conducted research and studied public health in the Los Angeles community at UCLA. During that summer, I learned patient etiquette and various women's health procedures, and I was able to practice educating women on the importance of healthy habits and mammograms in preventing breast cancer. Community-based healthcare is of high importance to me, especially within minority groups and lower income neighborhoods around Los Angeles. I spent the fall of 2013 in Madrid, Spain, and was able to teach and tutor English there, as well as practice the language and learn about the culture. I believe deeply in healthcare equality, as well as a fair and acceptable level of basic humanity, and I intend to help add value to the lives of the citizens in my community and communities abroad. I seek to help others on their educational journey toward equality. I also aim to bring creative improvements to the ideals of medical information and help communities understand the effects that leading healthy lifestyles can have on the populations.
